Frances & Nicole Eden Valley Shiraz
Wine
Woods Crampton Black Label Frances & Nicole Eden Valley Shiraz is named after the respective wives of winemakers Nicholas Crampton and Adam Woods. It draws from a pedigreed Eden Valley vineyard planted in the 1950s.
The fruit is handpicked, sorted and cold soaked. Most is destemmed, though a small portion is spread as whole bunches across the bottom of the fermenter. A slow, cool ferment follows with the cap of grape skins kept submerged.
Around 18 months of ageing takes place in large French oak barrels, 40% new. They are topped up every six weeks but not racked or stirred. The wine is bottled after a coarse filtration and a dash of sulphur.
Deep purple, Woods Crampton Black Label Frances & Nicole Eden Valley Shiraz is rich and brooding with a core of dark fruit flavours, fine tannins and impressive length. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
